Moments Café and Hub In Plymouth

In 2010, nurses Kate Smith and Laura Walker, frustrated with the lack of good quality support for people living with dementia, decided to take the plunge and start Memory Matters; an organisation who aims to compassionately support those living with dementia, providing top quality therapy and respite care.

Memory Matters believe in providing support in small groups or on a one-to-one basis to ensure that every single person is known. We will get to know people’s history, their beliefs about the world and importantly their perspective which can often be affected by the dementia.

“Do not ask me to remember,
Don’t try to make me understand,
Let me rest and know you’re with me,
Kiss my cheek and hold my hand.”

At Friends Helping At Home, we work with the Memories Café and Hub, using their excellent function rooms and supporting their cause, which is easy considering the fantastic food available.

The interior of Moments Café was designed to ignite conversation; therefore, it has been created different eras, including the 1950’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Customers are able to choose which time zone they would like to sit in whilst they enjoy a nice cup of coffee and reminisce.

If you are in Plymouth, looking for a bite to eat or a place to relax and enjoy a coffee, pop into the Memories Café, start up a conversation with some wonderful people. Learn something new from someone who remembers the past like it was yesterday, allowing them to feel valued and appreciated.
