Bringing Compassion Home:
Emily Merry Leads Person-Centred Care in Portishead

Introducing Directors Emily Merry and Chloe Perry: Emily Brings Local Expertise to Portishead

Local Resident Brings Person-Centred Care to Portishead

Friends Helping at Home is proud to announce Emily Merry, a dedicated and compassionate local resident, as the new Branch Director for their Portishead location. With a deep connection to the area and a passion for social care, Emily brings a wealth of experience and a heartfelt commitment to improving home support services for the local community.

A Personal Mission Rooted in Local Ties

Emily grew up in Nailsea and Backwell, spending weekends at cherished local spots such as Scarlet’s Cafe in Clevedon and exploring Portishead High Street. Their journey took them to Bath for university and then to Devon, where they lived for the past four years. During this time, they identified a significant gap in home support services that could help prevent emergencies and improve quality of life for many.

“Seeing the struggles of communities and the isolation they often face was a real eye-opener,” Emily Merry shared. “I became passionate about ensuring that people receive dignified, person-centred support at home.”

A Personal Experience with Home Care

The importance of at-home care is deeply personal for Emily Merry. “When my father was battling cancer, we relied on friends and family because we needed familiar faces and strong connections. The alternative at the time was to have strangers come into our home—people we had never met before and might never see again. That experience showed me firsthand the importance of having caregivers who truly know and understand the person they are supporting. It provides comfort, stability, and dignity during incredibly challenging times. Seeing this now with our clients only reinforces my belief in the power of compassionate, personalised care.”

Friends Helping at Home: A Commitment to Excellence

Friends Helping at Home stands out for its dedication to providing person-centred care tailored to each individual’s needs. They work with self-employed service providers to offer a wide range of home care services, from assisting young children to providing comprehensive dementia care for the elderly. Despite the diversity of their services, two principles remain constant:

1. No Stranger Policy: Clients always know who will be entering their homes, and service providers are well-acquainted with the clients they will be assisting. Introductions are made before the care package begins, ensuring that clients have a choice in who provides their care.

2. No Rushed Visits: Care is not a tick-box exercise. Recognising that needs can change daily, Friends Helping at Home remains flexible and adjusts to meet these changing requirements.

Expanding Horizons: Portishead’s First Branch Outside Devon
Being the first branch outside of Devon, Emily Merry isn’t afraid of a challenge. In fact, they recently jumped 15,000 ft out of a plane, raising over £6000 for Rowcroft Hospice. This daring act of bravery and dedication to a good cause exemplifies their commitment to making a difference.

Join Us in Making a Difference
As Emily Merry steps into this new role, they are eager to bring these values and services to Portishead and the surrounding communities. They are currently seeking franchisees to expand office hubs, clients who want to experience person-centred care, and service providers committed to making a difference.

“I believe that with the right support, we can help individuals maintain their independence and dignity at home,” says Emily Merry. “I’m excited to bring Friends Helping at Home to my home community and to work together to create a caring, supportive environment for all.”

With Emily‘s leadership, Friends Helping at Home is poised to become a vital part of the Portishead community, offering compassionate care and making a real difference in the lives of many.
