Enabling Support: Helping You Live Life Your Way

At Friends Helping at Home, we believe care should never feel restrictive. It should open doors, not close them. That’s where enabling support comes in.

Enabling support is all about empowering people to live independently, confidently, and fully, with the right level of support in place to make everyday life easier, safer, and more enjoyable.

What is Enabling Support?

Enabling support focuses on doing with, not doing for.

Rather than taking over, our self-employed service providers work alongside individuals, supporting them to maintain their independence, build confidence, and continue doing the things they love.

It’s a person-centred approach that adapts entirely around each individual, because no two people, or lives, are the same.

What Can Enabling Support Help With?

Enabling support can be as varied as the people we support. It may include:

  • Getting out and about in the community
  • Attending appointments or social activities
  • Support with hobbies and interests
  • Building confidence in daily routines
  • Help with shopping or errands
  • Encouragement to stay active and engaged

For some, it’s about regaining independence after a hospital stay. For others, it’s about having the confidence to try something new or simply enjoy day to day life with a little extra support.

Supporting Independence, Not Taking It Away

One of the most important aspects of enabling support is maintaining dignity and independence.

We understand how important it is to feel in control of your own life. That’s why our approach ensures that individuals are always at the centre of decisions, with support that fits around them, not the other way round.

Built Around You

At Friends Helping at Home, we take the time to get to know you properly.

We’ll arrange a relaxed, no obligation visit, often over a cup of tea, to understand your routine, preferences, and what matters most to you. From there, we introduce you to self-employed service providers who match your personality and needs.

With our no stranger policy, you’ll always meet and choose who supports you, giving you complete peace of mind.

Flexible, Personal, and Empowering

Enabling support isn’t a one size fits all service. It can be:

  • A few hours a week
  • Support to achieve a specific goal
  • Ongoing companionship and encouragement

Because our service providers are self employed, you also have the flexibility to choose the times, days, and level of support that works best for you.

A Better Way to Care

We’re proud to offer a different approach to care, one that focuses on choice, independence, and meaningful connections.

Enabling support is about living life on your terms, with someone by your side when you need it.
